I’m always looking for ways to improve my writing skills. Personally, I find that reading is the number one way to improve spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Reading is my passion, and I always find new books and stories that are both engaging and fascinating.
Twitter is also a great way to keep up with writing and editing. For example,
@OxfordWords shares interesting facts about words, as well as words that have been recently added to the Oxford Dictionary.

When it comes to the subject of reading, I absolutely believe that the phrase “Use It or Lose It” is true.
On the first day of my current job, I received the best piece of advice in years. The Publisher/President of my publishing group was kind enough to take me out to lunch so we could get to know each other. We had common interests and got along well, which was great. At the end of the lunch, we talked business for a few minutes. I then asked him if he had any advice that would help me at my new job.
His advice: “Read. Always keep reading.”
And I have. I’ve always been a reader, whether it’s a new book (or books) from the library, magazines, newspapers, online articles…I’ve always found myself wanting to keep up with the news.
There are so many benefits to reading that it’s hard to compile an actual list.
Reading is essential to not only writers, but also business gurus, teachers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, shop owners, cashiers…The list goes on. Books keep the mind sharp, enhance vocabulary, and provide entertainment, among other benefits.
Keeping up with newspapers, magazines, and online articles are certainly a good starting point. But i strongly recommend getting lost in a great book with a gripping story that keeps you wanting more.
